Our mission is to forge relationships that fill services gaps in the farmworker community while increasing awareness of the plight of the farmworker. Children who accompany their parents to work in the fields face increased risk from various health and safety hazards, from extreme heat to chemical exposure. These children also miss out on early childhood education opportunities. The New Horizons project aims to enroll farmworker children in early childhood education, keeping them out of their parents’ hazardous work environment and providing paid work for farmworker youth, allowing them to earn income outside the dangers of agricultural work. The project objectives also include education and safety training, financial coaching, family literacy classes with matched savings, and connecting farmworker families to wrap-around resources.
