Since 1986, the Public School Forum of North Carolina has served as an indispensable and nonpartisan champion for better schools. For nearly 30 years, we have brought together individuals and institutions from business, education and government to study education issues, develop ideas, seek consensus, and ultimately inform and shape education policy.

How we make a difference

We Study by building on a rich history of providing evidence-based, academically-valid research and analysis of vital public-education issues, framing ideas, and providing policy options.

We Inform by playing an essential role, for which we have built widespread credibility and deep trust, to keep educators, policymakers and the public informed about challenges and progress in public education.

We Lead through pioneering continuing-education programs for educators that promote sound education policymaking.

We Engage as we convene key stakeholders and the general public across the state and world-wide around vital education issues.

Your donation to the Forum goes to work immediately. Here are a few examples of ways your financial contribution supports our work:

We've convened 15 annual study groups to bring together educators, business leaders, and elected officials, as well as other key stakeholders and subject matter experts, to learn about challenges and work collaboratively to develop solutions and issue calls to action.

Our 16th Study Group focusing on educational opportunity for all North Carolina children involved more than 150 stakeholders from across the state to tackle key issues such as racial equity, the impact of childhood trauma on learning and how to address chronically low-performing schools.

Launching the Beginning Teacher Network, a program that helps us retain our teaching talent and accelerate their growth toward becoming great teachers. The Beginning Teacher Network has expanded from Wake County to Mecklenburg and Union counties with more to come.

Creating and coordinating the Institute for Educational Policymakers, the first program in the U.S. devoted solely to equipping elected and appointed policymakers with information.

Leading the NC Education Policy Fellowship Program, which has graduated more than 700 education leaders since 1992.

Developing and leading the NC Center for Afterschool Programs, a network of 6,000 afterschool learning providers guided by a consistent set of standards that we created.

Producing the annual Local School Finance Report for more than 20 years to examine local spending and identify those counties with the greatest need for additional resources and investment.

Leading delegations in partnership with the Center for International Understanding to benchmark and learn from the best education systems world-wide.

Creating and leading the NC Teaching Fellows Program which placed more than 8,000 talented teacher fellows in all 100 of North Carolina’s counties.
