Founded in 1983, the Near Southside Employment Coalition (NSEC) was created to assist chronically unemployed and hard-to-employ neighbors in finding meaningful job opportunities

It is our mission to equip individuals with quality training, connection to resources and access to opportunities necessary to obtain long-term employment leading to stable lives.

NSEC has trained over 540 persons in construction trades and office skills. We have placed over 6,500 persons in employment over the past 38-years. Some of our services include job placement, job readiness education and training, career assessment and planning, computer classes, summer youth internships, job referral and follow-up, and transportation assistance.

We have also partnered with the other agencies in the community for financial education classes (provided by local bank) and nutrition classes (UMSL Extension Program). Some of the past and current local employers include, BJC, Delmar Gardens Nursing Home, Drury Inn Hotels, Doorways, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, CSL Labs, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Ameren, Proctor and Gamble, U.S. Census Bureau, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services and City of St. Louis.

We focus on helping persons with significant challenges and obstacles to employment enter the workplace and achieve long-term employment.
