Nebraska AEYC has many projects focused on the needs of young children and the adults who care for them. Many families rely upon child care programs to ensure their children are safe and well cared for during the day. There are over 20,000 children under age 5 in Lancaster County.  In this county, 76.2% of all available parents of children under age 6 in the household are in the labor force (2013 Kids Count). To be able to participate fully in the workforce, families need safe, quality child care that supports a full range of children's developmental needs. Research shows the first 5 years of a child's life as the most critical for optimum brain development. During this critical period, children will grow and learn more than they will at any other time in their lives. By investing in the quality development of children at a young age, we can increase their opportunities to develop socially, intellectually and emotionally.
