Imagine looking at a sentence and seeing nothing but a string of strange consonants and misplaced vowels. You can guess at the words, you can try to sound them out, but it takes you longer than everybody else. You feel scared, stupid, and alone.

NDA's vision is that all individuals possess the skills they need to read and succeed. We have educated hundreds of Lincoln teachers and parents about dyslexia recognition and interventions. Half of Give to Lincoln monies raised will fund tutoring scholarships for the 1 in 5 children who has dyslexia.

Dyslexia can cause lifelong struggles with reading, writing, spelling or comprehension. But it doesn't have to be that way. The Nebraska Dyslexia Association has helped Lincoln children and adults with dyslexia become knowledgeable about their dyslexia and the interventions and accommodations that will ensure their success in school and the workplace. We provide referrals to qualified local tutors. We educate public and private school teachers about how to recognize dyslexia in their students and employ techniques and interventions that help students learn to read. Most services are provided free. Your donations will help NDA continure to provide these services for individuals with dyslexia, including:

• Free consultations with parents and teachers about individual student learning difficulties
• Classes, workshops, and conferences for parents and teachers to learn how to help children with dyslexia
• Awareness events and information sessions for the general public
• A support group for children with dyslexia--Dyslexic Kids Connect
• Advocacy for families who need support and advice
• Speakers for groups of educators and medical professionals
