New Avenue Foundation is a Springfield Delco nonprofit. We've been helping the disability community since 2013. Our mission is to help people with disabilities have more meaningful lives through innovative social and job training programs.
Our Community Cup coffeehouse is a joint project of the Tree of Life Presbyterian Church and New Avenue Foundation. We started this coffeehouse as an inclusive space, held weekly, for people with any disability to attend and perform. It has been running for 11 years. We are open to everyone. By bringing us all together, we will build a better community and learn to respect each other’s differences and we help make the lives of people with disabilities fuller.
The coffeehouse includes activities and free time with an emphasis on promoting an environment that encourages social interaction, cooperation, fun experiences, and live music. We provide a social venue for everyone to share and enjoy the company of others while doing things that they like. We encourage attendees to bring their favorite game, maybe chess, checkers, or card game to share or feel free to sing along or just listen to the music. Snacks and beverages are always provided, and the opportunity to make a friend or two.
We do not charge a fee to attend, but providing entertainment and food at a venue is not free to our organizations and performers. We encourage attendees to share a monetary gift with us if they are financially able. Our church hall coffeehouse has a comfy, homey feel in which everyone can come to chill out, have a snack and a meal, socialize, play a game, listen to music, sing along, or tell jokes, have skits, and play charades. More than any specific activity, we socialize and have fun.
We opened our coffeehouse on February 6, 2015, for a 3-month trial period to determine our path forward. Here we are, 11 years later, still going strong. We are open on Friday nights from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm and have learned a lot. We have parent volunteers who help and make food. We have church members who help in the kitchen and help clean up.
We know that there is a need for what our coffeehouse has provided. The attendance over these past 11 years has shown this. We have had many parents tell us we are doing work and people with disabilities tell us that they really enjoy coming out each Friday. We are averaging between 40 and 50 attendees each week and sometimes more. We have people come from New Jersey, Philadelphia, Chester, and Montgomery Counties to our coffeehouse.
The success of our coffeehouse prompted us to open 2 other similar weekday social events for adults with disabilitiesin July 2025. These are called Harmony Clubhouse and run at Pendle Hill in Wallingford PA on Tuesday from 1-3pm and at Grace Church in Wallingford PA on Wednesday from 12:30-2:30 pm. They are social events where folks can make friends, play games, do arts and crafts, participate in Karaoke, play basketball, bocce and catch. All of our programs are free.
We graciously ask you to support our weekly social events and continue to make it a worthwhile experience for those who attend. All donations are tax deductible, even food donations and time. Your time, money, food, or beverages will help us.
There are many adults with disabilities in PA who are left out of meaningful experiences in traditional settings. We provide a venue for people with disabilities to attend performances that they would otherwise not have. We are building community.
Our goal is to continue to make our events ongoing and sustainable. We need community support. All support would go to growing our work, providing stipends to performers, providing full meals instead of smaller snacks, possibly opening on a day/night in addition to Friday evenings, and eventually hiring staff for event support.
We also have been running a nonprofit coffee roasting business for about 6 years. We have provided job training to folks with disabilities. We are currently working with the TALK School in Newtown Square PA to provide job training for their students.
Thank you very much for considering our request.
