New England Wild Flower Society is the nation’s oldest plant conservation organization. Headquartered at Garden in the Woods, a renowned native plant botanic garden in Framingham, Massachusetts, the Society works throughout New England to:

  • Monitor and protect rare and endangered plants
  • Collect and preserve seeds to ensure biological diversity
  • Detect and control invasive species
  • Conduct research and offer a range of educational programs.

The Society’s Nasami Farm, a native plant nursery located in Whately, propagates native plants from seed that is sustainably collected in the wild.

Why do we work to conserve and promote native plants? Because life on earth depends on plants. Plants protect water quality and supply, are the base of the entire food chain, and create the air we breathe. Today, nearly 600 of New England’s 3,500 plant species are at risk due to habitat loss from development, invasive species encroachment, and changes in the climate.

Your donation will help increase our capacity to monitor and protect rare and endangered plants such as the beloved New England Blazing Star (Liatris novae-angliae). It will also help Nasami ensure that true New England native plants—with the genetic traits that make them hardy in this region and perfect for native wildlife—are available to homeowners, farmers, nurseries, landscape professionals, and other organizations.
