Dear Friends,

Every time a survivor in New Hampshire finds protection in the law, it's because people came together to make it happen.

At the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, we know that changing state law doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes the voices of survivors bravely sharing their stories, the insight of legal experts, and the leadership of lawmakers. It takes hours of research, relationship-building, and relentless advocacy. And it takes you.

Our ability to push for real, lasting improvements to state law relies entirely on independent contributions from supporters like you. When we go to the State House to strategize, testify, and publicly speak in support of victims' rights, we can't pay our staff with federal or state grants; we can only pay them with your donations. In other words, your gift makes our policy proposals a reality.

Each of our efforts requires monthssometimes yearsof coordination with survivors, legal aid attorneys, community leaders, and public officials. This legislative session, we're working on one of our most urgent priorities yet: Human traffickers are exploiting a dangerous loophole in New Hampshire law. Illicit massage businesses (IMBs)which pose as legitimate but are really facades for human traffickingare on the rise in our state. Why? Because our laws are weaker than our neighbors'.

To confront this, the Coalition's policy team is leading the charge on HB405, a critical piece of legislation that brings together law enforcement, experts, and community leaders to propose effective, lasting reforms. A key component of this bill is strengthening accountability by raising the penaltyfrom a misdemeanor to a felonyfor those who knowingly allow trafficking on their property.

"Police chiefs from across the state frequently notify us about these IMBs appearing in their communities," Dave McCormack, a task force officer with the Department of Homeland Security, recently told a Senate committee. "We need the state to take this very seriously and give law enforcement and state agencies the authority and the tools to help victims and prevent our communities from being exploited by these dangerous establishments."

Your financial support advances this fight. Without community contributions, we risk losing the momentum we've builtand survivors risk being left behind.

Please, make a gift today to support survivor-driven legal reform in New Hampshire!

Sincerely,

Your Friends at the Coalition
