Real data. Real impact. A stronger New Hampshire.
At a time when public debates are increasingly shaped by politics, partisanship, and misinformation, the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute is a vital source of data and evidence-based analysis.
Our state faces serious economic challenges - from rising housing costs and unaffordable child care to widening income inequality. Solving these challenges requires more than slogans and soundbites. It requires evidence about what works and what doesn't. NHFPI provides exactly that: independent, nonpartisan research that helps policymakers make informed decisions based on facts, not ideology.
Whether it's analyzing how federal funding flows into New Hampshire, breaking down the impact of tax proposals, or showing where in the state families are struggling most, NHFPI helps everyone see the full picture.
Now more than ever, we need organizations like NHFPI to cut through the noise and provide a reliable foundation for smart policy. Your support helps us continue this critical work - digging into the numbers and ensuring that decisions about our economy are grounded in data.
Testimonials
"I’ve just looked through NH Policy Points. It’s a terrific and unique resource for not only the legislature, but also for communities, organizations, news media and citizens across NH. Kudos to you and your colleagues at the NH Fiscal Policy Institute." - WMUR NH's Business Host Fred Kocher, 12/20/24
"Thank you for hosting such a well organized, insightful budget conference. As a newly elected legislator, I found the presentations and discussions incredibly informative. The knowledge shared has deepened my understanding of the state's financial landscape and the complexities of crafting a balanced budget that serves all Granite Staters." - NH State Legislator Erin Kerwin, 12/11/24
“I always like to encourage policymakers to read various sources of information. Try to get to what is actually happening out there in the economy at the current time, and there's a lot of good sources of information. The Economic and Labor Market Information Bureau at New Hampshire Employment Security has quite a bit of data available, hearing from various trade organizations about what's happening in their specific industries at any given time, and then obviously, organizations like New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute that are crunching the numbers. That’s all information that I think should inform policymakers on what revenues are going to look like in the future.” - New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration Commissioner Lindsey Stepp, 4/30/25 (NH Uncharted Podcast Episode 2)
The New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to exploring, developing, and promoting public policies that foster economic opportunity and prosperity for all New Hampshire residents, with an emphasis on low- and moderate-income families and individuals.
Founded in 2009, NHFPI produces regular reports on the fiscal and economic challenges facing New Hampshire and strives to serve as a resource to anyone interested in meeting those challenges.
NHFPI focuses on state budget and policy issues and aims to illustrate recent budget trends, highlight future challenges, and examine the ways in which the New Hampshire budget is used to educate the state’s children, ensure access to health care, promote public safety, maintain public structures, and achieve other critical public priorities.
NHFPI also endeavors to shed light on trends in wages, poverty, and other economic measures, and on their implications for working Granite Staters.
