New Hampshire Writers' Project

A nonprofit organization

Every story deserves a place to begin—and someone to believe in it.

Some writers arrive at NHWP with a finished manuscript.
Many arrive with just an idea.
Some aren’t even sure they’re “allowed” to call themselves writers yet.

What they all have in common is this:
they’re looking for a place where their story matters.

That’s where we come in.

What Happens When a Writer Finds Community

A first-time writer shares their work out loud—and doesn’t feel alone.
A high school student realizes their voice has power.
A veteran finds a way to put experience into words.
An author connects with readers, publishes their work, and keeps going.

These aren’t just programs.
They’re turning points.

How We Make That Possible

The 603 Writers’ Conference

For many, this is where everything changes.

Writers spend the day learning from nationally recognized authors and peers, gaining clarity on their next steps, and connecting with others who understand the journey.

It’s where writers stop wondering if they belong—and start acting like they do.

Flash Fiction & High School Flash Fiction

Sometimes all it takes is a small invitation: write something short, take a chance, submit it.

From there, something bigger begins.

Students and adults alike discover:

  • Their ideas are worth sharing
  • Their voice has impact
  • Their story can reach others

For young writers especially, this can be the moment they see themselves differently—for the first time.

Veterans’ Initiative

Not every story is easy to tell.

For veterans, writing can become a powerful way to process, reflect, and connect—with themselves and with others who understand.

We provide space, support, and community for those stories to be written—and heard.

And Then There’s Everything Else

Because one moment of courage isn’t enough. Writers need ongoing support.

That’s why we also offer:

  • Writers’ Night Out groups across New Hampshire
  • Workshops, webinars, and marketing support
  • Scholarships to ensure access for all

So that once someone starts, they can keep going.

Why Your Support Matters

Every donation helps someone take that next step:

  • Sharing their work for the first time
  • Finding a community that understands them
  • Turning an idea into something real

Because writing doesn’t happen in isolation.
It happens when someone feels supported enough to begin—and brave enough to continue.

Be Part of the Story

When you give to NHWP, you’re not just supporting a nonprofit.

You’re helping someone find their voice.
You’re helping a story get told.
You’re helping build a more connected, creative New Hampshire.

And that impact lasts far beyond the page.
