Each year many worthy adult students apply for the NJALL Scholarship. The final selection is based on motivation, need, educational and career goals, demonstrated ability to meet life challenges and potential for success in higher education. The scholarship not only helps adult students to cover expenses like childcare, textbooks and transportation, but also validates the motivation and effort they exhibit in pursuit of their educational goals.

NJALL is supporting (8) Scholarship winners this year who are attending New Jersey County Colleges - Bergen, Camden, Essex, Hudson and Raritan Valley. Two of our winners anticipate graduating this year and transferring to 4-year institutions.

The inspirational words of the winners themselves best tells the story of the impact of the Scholarship program:

Ashley 2011:  “I want you and everyone at NJALL to know how grateful I truly am, and that I'd never felt so accomplished then when you called me to tell me that I won. I even remember how our conversation went. I answered the phone sounding frustrated because I was on campus about to dry up my bank account to pay my first tuition bill when you said, "You should sound happier. You've been chosen." I have so much to be thankful for, even for the surprises in life. I am so excited for what's next, and I owe so much of it to you. To be honest the money helps a lot, but it is secondary to the motivation you gave me. I was not a good student or athlete, and I had never won anything in my life before this. If I can teach anyone anything, it would be that who you once were does not determine who you become, and where you come from shouldn't matter.” (Ashley hopes to graduate from Bergen County College this year.)

Jadyra 2012 – “My Fall semester is going great so far. I am still pursuing both my Associate Degree in General Science and in Nursing. Once I finish up this semester I will be applying for the Nursing program. I'm really excited and nervous in knowing that I'm getting one step closer to achieving my goal.  I want to thank you for all your support. I would also appreciate it if you would please convey my deep thanks to the other Board members. Thank you all for your generosity and kind spirits in funding this scholarship, which has provided support and encouragement for both my family and I. With sincere thanks”. (Jadyra attends Essex County College.)

The NJALL Scholarship provides up to $500 per semester for full-time enrollment in higher education, to a maximum of $4000. It is supported entirely by individual donations. Every penny donated goes directly towards the scholarship grants and every donation counts towards continuing this important program.
