Who is New Life Center for Thoroughbreds?

New Life Center for Thoroughbreds (NLCT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Wirtz, Virginia. NLCT is run by four women who donate all their time to the organization, and all have fulltime jobs outside of the nonprofit. 

2024 Mission Statement

We are passionately dedicated to the life of the thoroughbred whether retiring from the racetrack or found in dire circumstances. We provide thoroughbreds with a safe place to land and help them transition to a new life of love, value, and purpose while catering to each horse’s individual needs.

We Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain, Rehome or, if needed, offer a life of gentle Retirement (5R Program) to these talented horses. 

We also inform and bring awareness of the kind and majestic nature of the thoroughbred through community involvement. We are known for providing: 

·Exceptional care and well-being with love and attentiveness.

·Assessing the health, state, and ability of each horse and  implementing a tailored plan for recovery and retraining.

·Attention to details and the highest of quality in all we do.

2024 Vision Statement

To help give every thoroughbred a chance at a new life by providing the expertise and resources needed and by working in partnership with the racing industry, other horse rescues, university equine programs, associations, charities, veterinarians, and communities.

Your Impact

In 2023 New Life Center for Thoroughbreds was able to build two fields that have been dedicated to rehabilitation and recovery. The next step for us to be able to rescue more thoroughbreds is building a shelter. This shelter will house these horses and store the necessary items to care for them. In the Media Gallery is a photo of the structure that we are fundraising for during SML Gives 2024. Along with the shelter we are also fundraising for a HayHut. By enclosing the hay, it is protected from inclement weather and waste from the horses.
