Since 1993 the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation has awarded over 1311 high school and freshman-year college scholarships to high-achieving low-income students who attend schools in our area and go to distinguished Higher Education Institutions in our Country. These students go on to be responsible leaders and make substantial contributions to the betterment of our community. The NOHHF Scholarships program recruits selects and grants more than 80 scholarships yearly to low-income high school students residing in South Louisiana. It interacts with over 23 participating schools and also interacts with selected universities in Louisiana and out-of-state. Due to the present economic situation, the Foundation expects to substantially increase the number of high school students who will be receiving scholarships. GiveNOLA Day will prove to be an exceptional resource for the NOHHF and many other non-profit organizations in our area. Your donation will help the Foundation support amazing low-income, underrepresented high school students with Hispanic heritage to succeed in their academic careers.
My name is Marco Acosta and I was a NOHHF University Scholar in 2014. I wanted to thank the organization for selecting me. Coming from an immigrant low-income household, the thought of paying for college seemed like an impossible goal. When I was applying to college, I knew that if I couldn't find a way to pay for tuition, I would not be able to attend. This scholarship gave me hope to pursue my dreams.
