We are a Detroit based 501(c)3 who is building a tiny home Village to serve as transitional housing for homeless folks right in a neighborhood on the east side. We’ve been working street level in Detroit on homelessness since 2007. We began as BWB Detroit, building and handing out 600+ supply-filled backpacks per year. BWB also ran a Free Store at Mariners Inn and Cass Park. The principals started NPV, a 501(c)3 in 2021, hoping to make a greater change through our Village program. We have the experience, passionate volunteer support and a longtime desire to be part of this change.
NPV is partnered with the City of Detroit in their “Community Partnership Program”. NPV has the support of City of Detroit District 4 Managers, City Council rep for District 4, Planning Department, Housing & Revitalization Department. We have obtained City Council and Zoning approvals. Our program regularly collaborates with many Continuum of Care service providers (Pope Francis, Open Door, NOAH Project, Motor City Mitten Mission, Day House, Manna Meal at St. Peters, etc.)
The area we have initially chosen is in District 4, the East Canfield neighborhood. Many neighborhood residents have welcomed our project. Some have been helping for two years in the temporary homeless shelter we operate through winter months in the adjacent church. They have asked to be a part of this project. Some have committed to helping with village operations, embracing the experience of helping those less fortunate. One neighbor is joining our board.
