New Philanthropists

OUR MISSION

The New Philanthropists is a pioneering organization that works to create more racially diverse and inclusive nonprofit boards. Our mission is to build a pipeline to leadership for people of color, cultivate diversity, equity and inclusion among mainstream nonprofit boards, and enable nonprofits to be more effective stewards of public trust and produce better outcomes for the people they serve.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Our objectives involve the community and its leaders in order to progress towards equity in the nonprofit sector.

Valuing The Whole Person
A board member is more than their financial gift. TNP believes people representing racial and ethnic groups have valuable, real-world insights and contributions to bring to the organization.

Change Takes Work
TNP believes that boards and prospects must assess their readiness for diversity and inclusion, and that self-assessment can enlighten the path toward change.

Relationships Matter
Effective board recruitment has always relied on relationships, and that holds true for prospects of color. Organizations and individuals must align in order to make a successful match.

We need your support in creating cultural shifts on nonprofit boards and in providing resources for leaders of color to gain the access, opportunity and support to serve on nonprofit boards. Since our launch, we've:

• Placed 32 leaders of color on 24 nonprofit boards
• Had 30 mentors provide guidance to 146 mentees in board service leadership!
• Hosted 20 board diversity workshops with 250 participants
• Have had over 60 nonprofits participate in our programming
• Have over 570 board prospects of color
