New Schools Venture Fund

Since our founding in 1998, our mission has been to reinvent K-12 education so that all young people can graduate high school prepared and inspired to achieve their most ambitious dreams and plans.

As a national nonprofit, we raise philanthropic capital from individual and institutional investors, and then invest those funds to support education entrepreneurs who are transforming public education. The charter school movement would likely look very different today had it not been for the more than $150 million we have directed to over 300 charter schools around the country serving 157,000 students.

Recently, we have also supported innovative thinkers with $9 million in funding invested in ed tech start-ups through the NewSchools Seed Fund. 

NewSchools has helped to change the landscape of public education in the last 15 years, but there is so much more to be done, and this is the time to do it.   

We continue to build on our strong legacy as a partner to education entrepreneurs who have a vision for creating great results for all students – particularly those in schools that are not working for them. Our defining vision for tomorrow is to redesign schools by rethinking time, talent and technology so they work for every student, every day.  We will do so by investing in three areas: in teams of educators creating schools that put power in the hands of students and tailor learning to their individual needs; in sophisticated tools and services that help deliver this tailored learning and makes the best use of teachers’ time and talents; in diversifying the education leadership pipeline; and in thought leadership, by connecting teams of entrepreneurs to share best practices and learn from each other — at our annual Summit and other events.

In order to fuel success for more students at a faster pace, we will partner with the best minds in education and invest in the most promising teams who are building on these ideas and helping students achieve long-term academic and personal success.
