New Beginnings Respite Care Facilities, 'A Place to Heal'

Imagine, the only place for the homeless to heal from surgery is a tent.                                                                                                       

New Beginnings is building a place for homeless people to heal after hospital care.                                                                                 

Respite care cuts down significantly on returns to the hospital. 

  This year New Beginnings is fundraising and awareness-raising for our New Respite Care Facilities: 'A Place to Heal'. NWA Gives on April 4th is a way to 'keep it local' with online giving. There are many amazing Non-profits listed as well as New Beginnings on the NWA Gives website! With your help, we know we can begin receiving clients into our Medical Respite program Every donation given on April 4th can help a local cause true to your heart!

I met Bob (not his real name) when he was dropped off by a taxi immediately after being discharged from the hospital. He was in a wheelchair, was wearing a hospital gown and scrub pants and carried a bag with his belongings, including wound care supplies and prescriptions for pain medications and antibiotics. His left leg had been amputated above the knee. He only had a tent to stay in. Over the next several months, Healthcare services were only available 2 weekdays at the day center and we tried our best to keep it clean and prevent an infection.  It took many months for Bob’s surgical incision to heal and he had to be readmitted many times to the hospital for infections. Bob would have been a perfect candidate for a medical respite program.
