Women, their families and larger communities rely on the natural resources of their immediate environment to gather water, food, fuel, and everything else on which their very survival depends. Unfortunately, it is these people (the majority of the world's poor) who feel the intense squeeze of global warming the most accutely.

In the Usambara Mountains of southwest Tanzania, we are partnering with the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group to serve 3 communities, across various sectors. We are working with a model that empowers women to lead, trains them in agro-forestry, and promotes commuinty-led development. We are focused on everything from access to education to clean water, clean and efficient cookstoves and healthcare.

Since it is the women who are there, in their commuinties, doing the daily work of planting, gathering, cooking and sustaining themselves and their children, it is the women who are the ones in need of training and empowerment. Their potential to impact change in their families and communities is boundless. When women are engaged, commuinties thrive and become self-sifficient, young girls stay in school longer, crops are more productive and resources are returned to the people. What an incredible opportunity we have to be a part of it!
