Founded in 1947 with early leadership from General Douglas MacArthur, legendary Army coach Earl "Red" Blaik and immortal journalist Grantland Rice, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame was conceived to harness the power of amateur football toward developing athletic achievement, citizenship and scholarship in young people.

Through several programs and initiatives, the NFF continues its mission to preserving the past, promoting the present, preparing the future, and protecting the game. Key highlights of NFF initiatives are:

  • Overseeing the process and induction of players and coaches into the College Football Hall of Fame
  • Awarding over $300,000 annually in post-graduate scholarships to Scholar-AthletesPostgraduate scholarships have been used to continue the standard of excellence demonstrated by earning more than 150 medical degrees, 100 law degrees, 80 MBAs and 45 PhDs to date.
  • Encouraging leadership, sportsmanship and academic excellence in young football players, The NFF Chapter Network is a nationwide, grassroots effort that distributes more than $1 million in scholarships annually.
  • Launching the Future for Football - a cross-platform mixed media campaign created in 2018 to celebrate the positive impact the game has made on millions of players, coaches, administrators, volunteers and fans nationwide.
