Ngandus Angels

Since 1989 my Kenya tour groups have been visiting and helping support an elementary school north of Nairobi. Our donations thus far made it possible to vastly improve the school infrastructure, taking it from a dirt-floor school to one with concrete floors, paved walkways, windows, electricity, and running water. We replaced all student desks and bought desks for the teachers; purchased a large tank for drinkable water; built a new kitchen with 400-liter porridge cooker. We rebuilt the front gates and renovated several classrooms. We upgraded the assembly hall with a ceiling, better lighting, and reinforced doors and windows for security for new audio-visual equipment: a wall-mounted screen, digital projector, DVD player, sound system, and nearly 200 educational and entertaining DVDs. We purchased laptops (50 so far and still hoping for more). We also provide free sanitary pads to girls, and high school scholarships to high-achieving students. Our first scholarship winner, in 2001, would have had to drop out after 8th grade. Now he's a CPA with a B.A. in Economics. Of the 39 high school graduates thus far (2016), 12 have completed university and 12 are now in university. We currently have 22 students in high school, 6 of whom will be graduating at year’s end.
