Over thirty years ago, five ladies from different faith backgrounds met at a workshop about homelessness and hunger sponsored by the Valley Interfaith Council (VIC). These ladies were drawn together by a common concern for our community: hunger relief. After securing support from their respective pastors and rabbis, the ladies made a formal proposal to VIC, and eventually formed the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry. The original committee was comprised of representatives from five local congregations.

Today, the committee has expanded to become an advisory board with members from fifteen congregations. Records indicate that NHIFP is the longest continually operating agency of its kind in the San Fernando Valley. Each congregation participates through a combination of financial gifts, in-kind contributions, and volunteer hours. The Pantry distributes bags of food every week, all year round, and has never, in over thirty years, run out of food.
