Nichols United Methodist Church

Each summer NUMC ASP journeys to one of four states in Appalachia including Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.  We are a crew of 46 high school youth and adults that commits 9 months to raise money so that we might serve the people in Appalachia for a week.  These are hard times for every American, but for the people in Appalachia, hard times are all they have known their whole life.

Coal mines are shutting down at an alarming rate, and for many of these families, it is a devastating blow to an already struggling existence.  ASP enters these communities with one goal, to make homes warmer, safer and drier for as many families that are in need.  However, they cannot do this without volunteers and we cannot do this without your help.  

This one week changes so many lives, aside from the wonderful families we serve, it is a huge blessing to all of us that volunteer and especially for our youth.  We all know on a surface level that we have many of life's blessings.  This concept  is sometimes lost in the daily existence of a teenager.  But after spending a week in Appalachia, working in the sun for 8 hours a day only to sleep on the floor at night, these teens are forever changed and return home with a new appreciation for all that they have been blessed with.
