Help Preserve American Jewish Military History for the Next Generation

Not everyone gets to see a memorial to their service and sacrifice while they are still alive.  In fact, the vast majority of WWII veterans who survived the battlefields had already passed on by the time that memorial broke ground on the mall in Washington.

Jewish veterans of America’s military service are represented in our nation’s capital by the National Museum of American Jewish Military History (NMAJMH).  The museum has grown out of the efforts of many members of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA and numerous other benefactors.  Today, the NMAJMH sits on a quiet street not far from the mainstream of tourist activity in Washington, DC in a 44-year-old, 5-story building.  Thousands of people from all over the world trek the few blocks off Dupont Circle to visit the museum each year.

The NMAJMH stands as a testament to the strength and endurance of the Jewish people in the United States of America.  Jews in the military service of our country are memorialized in this building through the presentation of revolving exhibits highlighting the diverse nature of the Jewish population in the armed forces.  Volunteers work year-round to escort visitors including foreign dignitaries, ordinary citizens, veterans, and students who learn that Jews have served this nation honorably and faithfully since before the American Revolution. The Board of Directors of the museum constantly seek ways to update the exhibits by presenting narratives and photos of in-service Jewish soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, and Coasties, and they work on improving the facilities for all to enjoy.

With the necessity to upgrade and update the many topical exhibits, the NMAJMH is facing an uncertain future because donations have, understandably, fallen precipitously over the past few years.  That’s why we are writing today.  If you’re heading into the end of the tax year with the necessity to increase giving before that ‘big bite’ is taken by the Government, we hope you will consider designating a leadership gift to the NMAJMH. Your contribution may be made in the name of a family member or other person, will be acknowledged in writing, and is tax deductible to the extent of the law.

Please donate generously so that NMAJMH may continue to present the story of Jewish American servicemen and women for many decades to come.
