No Sister Left Behind

A nonprofit organization

No Sister Left Behind was founded to lessen the disparities associated with underserved women in our communities as it concerns their well-being. Our mission is to "Establish a networking system of support among women to promote total well-being." We believe there are 7 aspects to achieving total well-being: Social, Mental, Emotional, Physical, Financial, Career and Community. We provide the following programs and events which address these well-being aspects:

  • Higher Education Empowerment Program (HEEP): This program is for women 18 and up, with a high school diploma and a desire to achieve a higher education. We focus on three areas we believe are essential for success in achieving a higher education: DETERMINATION, MINDSET, and MINDFULNESS.
  • HealingHearts Women's Trauma Peer Support Group: This program provides a "safe space" where women who have experienced trauma, can come and receive the tools needed to help in their healing process.
  • Finance Well-being Program: Women learn the basics of financial literacy through interactive learning.
  • Women of Excellence Luncheon Fundraiser: We acknowledge three women in our community which go above and beyond to meet a need of others within our community.
  • 5K Walk for Mental Health Awareness Fundraiser: This 5k Walk is a unity walk to bring awareness to the need for mental health as well as helping to get rid of the stigma associated with mental health.
  • Total Well-Being Conference: "Women Awakening to Wellness": The conference is held to bring well-being information presented by professional women each speaking on a topic concerning well-being.
  • "NSLB Cares" Christmas Event: For this joyous event we provide food, snacks and gifts to 75 women who are currently incarcerated.

Who We Are

National, State and Local data attest to the disparities associated with Black women concerning their social, mental, emotional, physical, financial, career and community well-being. No Sister Left Behind was established to bring greater awareness through education and resources to the community of Bakersfield for the need of well-being for Black women. It is our purpose to build a healthy community of Black women where they are supported and empowered with the ability and resources needed to develop and thrive in their home, community and beyond. Because we understand that disparities associated with well-being are found among every race of women, our programs and resources are available to all women.
