North Coast Repertory Theatre

North Coast Rep’s mission is to create a platform where artist and audience thrive through the intimacy of live theatre, recognizing the power of theatre to challenge complacency, revitalize the imagination, nurture the unexpected and embrace the variety and diversity in our lives.

MAIN STAGE PRODUCTIONS
• Our annual subscription series includes 7 locally produced main stage musicals, comedies, & dramas.
• We produce over 200 performances annually in our 194-seat theatre, serving over 40,000 patrons.
• We have produced 12 world premieres, 4 of which were commissioned new works
• We have produced nearly 100 San Diego/West Coast premieres.
• During the pandemic we produced 9 filmed productions.
• We employ dozens of professional actors annually, as well as stage managers, directors, designers and technical crew members.
• We routinely produce play readings of new & classic works for free or a nominal charge.
• We produce a Variety Night series of entertainment, including Tuesday Night Comics.

THEATRE SCHOOL
• We produce 5 student productions, conduct classes throughout the school year and during the summer, provide camps and outreach sessions serving over 2,000 students annually.
• Season 38 provided more than $87,000 is scholarships to underserved children.
• We have many partnerships and perform outreach in our community, significantly with San Diego Unified School District, San Diego Botanic Gardens, Casa de Amistad, La Colonia, the City of Carlsbad, and more.
• We have award-winning students: At the Annual National Youth Arts Awards for the 2018-2019 season, students from the Theatre School @ North Coast Rep earned 5 awards and 12 additional nominations!

LEADERSHIP
• Founded in 1982 by Olive and Tom Blakistone, North Coast Rep has been a cultural gem in Solana Beach for nearly 40 years.
• Award-winning Artistic Director, David Ellenstein, has led the organization for over 19 years.
• The Trustees of our Board, led by President Marc Tayer, have performed the functions of ambassadors, advisors, funders and supporters. They represent a cross section of community leaders.
• We have several donor societies including Corporate Sponsors, Drama Queens, Seat Sponsors, Artists’ Advocates, McMurtry Actors’ Fund Sponsors, Production Sponsors, Angels, Legacy Circle, Gala chairs.

RECOGNITION
• Our productions have won numerous Craig Noel, Patte’ and Bravo Awards for excellence in theatre.
• We are a nationally recognized theatre, appearing in publications including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and American Theatre Magazine on several occasions.
• Ellenstein won the Lifetime Achievement Award at Bravo’s San Diego Theatre Awards in 2016 and Director of the Year at the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel Awards in 2018.
