The Dallas County homeless community is served by Parkland mobile health clinics that provide screening, prescriptions, and basic treatments. Collin County lacks such resources, although there are approximately 455 homeless individuals in Collin County and many more uninsured and lacking transportation. As a result Emergency Departments often act as the first line of health care for these individuals.

North Texas MedBridge (themedbridge.org) was started to fill this large gap in healthcare access and literacy in Collin County and Dallas County. We provide health screenings that check blood pressure, blood sugar levels, Flu and Covid, and treat minor illnesses with over-the-counter medications.  We uniquely collaborate with mental health, wound care, STD units, mammogram units, and haircut services to provide screenings at our events as well, creating a comprehensive, one-stop-shop to fill the needs of the unhoused.

In only one year, North Texas MedBridge has served over 240 patients in Collin and Dallas Counties and has facilitated over 260 preventative screening services, including mammograms, PAP smears, STI tests, and mental health counsels. 23% of our patients have presented with New Health Risks, meaning that they had no previous official diagnosis of any chronic disease, yet had abnormal health screening results (blood pressure, blood sugar, oxygen saturation, mental health, etc). 34% of our patients are at Severe Risk, a classification we determine by a combination of chronic disease status, access to medications, prescription status, and ER visits in the past 3 months.

Each month, we build up our passionate volunteer team consisting of anywhere from high school students to healthcare providers. We actively seek to connect with local organizations to expand our impact and the services we can provide. Our long-term goal is to be able to provide more primary medical care at the point of need and to be able to provide common prescription medications to homeless individuals in Collin County and surrounding counties.

With the limited resources we have, we have been able to develop creative solutions to deliver personalized care for the homeless. Our numbers demonstrate this. With your donation, we believe that our impact can be amplified in our community. Lives can be changed. We are inspired by the overwhelming support we have received from local organizations and clinics, so we hope to live up to the potential they envision we can achieve.
