NAAS is very active in conservation education both within the context of member meetings as well as “boots on the ground” work with three designated sanctuary sites and three Import Bird Areas in Northern Arizona. We have received grant funding for projects in Sedona and Page Springs which will provide increased public use and appreciation of wildlife and habitat values. In this regard, NAAS will be hosting groups and field trips in increasing numbers during the next year and we expect this demand to grow as the facilities become better known. This will present a financial drain on our resources as we will need more support materials such as brochures and more frequent field trips.

This education/conservation initiative is layered on top of traditional mainstay Audubon actives such as bird identification and cataloging. We participate in national activities such as the Christmas Bird Count which contributes materially to the stores of bird distribution data which, in turn, aids in the understanding of Global Climate Change. As has always been the case with National Audubon, everything NAAS does is ultimately directed at habitat conservation.
