In 1997, Jan Wilson, CEO, founded NorthShore Health Centers in order to provide affordable quality healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured community of Northwest Indiana. Jan was the school nurse at Portage High School and noticed many parents unable to tend to their sick children because they could not afford to take time off of work. Driven by Jan’s empathy for these families, NorthShore’s first location was established as a 501c3 teen clinic inside of Portage High School. With the growing need for medical and dental care in the Northwest Indiana community, NorthShore has now grown to five medical centers and four dental centers located in Portage, Lake Station, Merrillville and recently Hammond.

At some point, everyone needs healthcare. Whether it’s an illness, accident or preventative care, the need for a physician and medical services will arise. When that time comes, each person deserves the highest level of care regardless of ability to pay. This is the foundation of NorthShore Health Centers and the reason why NorthShore believes everybody deserves quality healthcare…everybody! Our mission is to ensure that each individual has a medical home and access to the highest quality healthcare, regardless of gender, age, race, social or cultural standing and/or ability to pay.

In order to accomplish this mission, NorthShore Health Centers provides medical services for everyone whether you're insured or not.  Our medical centers not only accept commercial insurance plans, but we also offer an affordable self-pay option for anyone who is uninsured. In addition, NorthShore is an enrollment site for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act/Health Insurance Marketplace so those who do not have insurance can get assistance with our trained staff on choosing the right insurance plan.

NorthShore also strives to provide as many services as possible at our locations. We realized not all medical locations take Medicaid or offer sliding scale options. By eliminating the need to refer a patient to a specialist, NorthShore is able to assist in lowering the overall cost of our patients’ medical bills.

For this very reason, NorthShore added our radiology department which has state of the art equipment in the areas of Ultrasound including 3D/4D Ultrasound, Mammography, X-ray, and Bone Density for diagnosing Osteoporoses. NorthShore Health Center’s has Urgent Care as well in order to provide immediate medical care on an unscheduled, walk-in basis. Our Urgent Care is available evenings and on Saturdays in order to treat patients who have an injury or illness that requires immediate care but not serious enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room. Our board certified Doctors and Nurses also specialize in many areas including Family Practice, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Behavioral Health, and Dental Care.

NorthShore very excited to have opened our doors in Hammond at the beginning of this year and begin serving the Hammond community. NorthShore Health Centers Hammond Center is located at 6920 Indianapolis Boulevard and will be offering the following services: Family Practice, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Dental with the plan to add Urgent Care beginning March of 2014.
