On July  1, 2022 we began our 3rd full year of vital safety net support services and this winter is our 8th winter running the Emergency Warming Center.

This grass roots community effort has grown each year and with COVID hitting in March 2020 we expanded to fill a void in safety net services and began year round support services for our unhoused and under-housed neighbors.  In November 2020 we expanded from The Emergency Warming Center,to North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services which is a program of AMI Housing Inc.   This partnership gives us long term stability and the ability to access to federal funding to help sustain these vital supports and move towards the larger goal of preventing and ending homelessness in the North Tahoe Truckee region.

Our life giving & life saving programs this year are:

  1. The Day Respite Center currently opens Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday,  each day from 1pm-5pm.   It's a safe space to access bathrooms,  showers, warm meals, laundry, connection to necessities and a place to be part of a community.  We operate as a "Navigation Center" and provide case management, entry to county services & support guests with housing plans and other steps forward.
  2. The Emergency Warming Center opens the most severe weather nights,  November - April.  Providing guests a warm, dry, safe place to stay overnight.  Offering community, health checks, warm meals, necessities, case management and entry to county services.
  3. Street Outreach:  We have a full time Outreach Coordinator who is supported by other staff to create a team approach and meet neighbors where they are.  Working to develop relationships, provide necessities and encourage these neighbors to engage in other support services.
  4. Case Management & Housing Support:    We have case managers who in addition to keeping the programs running, are focused on helping neighbors collect their needed documentation and connect to services and benefits. The entire team works together to support with housing plans and to get newly homeless neighbors back into housing quickly.   Most of our current funding is restricted for neighbors who are homeless.   We are committed to raising funds to provide the needed supports to prevent neighbors from becoming homeless and the supports needed to help newly housed neighbors adjust to being housed,  and to remain housed.

Here is a link to our 2022 Annual Report & Success Stories:  Link to our Annual Report Our most impactful statistic was our team helping 40 households END their homelessness by moving into housing!

Here is the story of Sam and Mary who lived in Tahoe for 43 years.  Like many locals, they lost their housing during the pandemic.  Without any family support, they found themselves unhoused for the first time in their life.  Thankfully, they were connected to our organization through Sierra Community House.  We were able to connect them to the needed resources to qualify for one of the new, below market rate apartments in Truckee.  Thanks to this type of housing,  case management and funding support once they moved in they could afford their rent with their Social Security income.  They continue to access their doctors and support services they built over their years here and are able to remain in their community.

We appreciate your support as we continue to provide vital safety net services and End Homelessness in the North Tahoe - Truckee region, one person at a time.  Your support will help us continue these programs and take steps towards a long term or permanent location for services when our lease at Church of the Mountains expires June, 2023.
