Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter

Since 1993, the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter has provided hope to youth who have suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect. You are giving kids the chance to dream again - to hope again - and to imagine a future brighter than they ever thought possible.

Today, you have the opportunity to give a child in foster care a summer to remember!

The harsh reality for foster children is that their childhood isn’t normal. Being removed from your home because of abuse or neglect and being placed somewhere else, with someone you don’t know, is simply something most children don’t have to deal with. It sets them apart in a way that’s difficult to comprehend.

The staff at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter works hard to build a bridge back to normalcy by providing the children in our care with the opportunity for a common childhood experience - summer camp. Each camper will have the opportunity to uncover, discover and develop their self-worth, talents and abilities that will foster a successful future. Campers learn to live in community with others, to share, take responsibility, and challenge themselves to experience new activities.

This April, your gift will be doubled by our Board of Directors - up to $75,000!

The NWACS summer program allows children in foster care, who are current residents of the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter, to attend summer day camp and benefit from the educational experience that going to camp provides. We believe that the camp experience coincides with our mission by making kids feel safe, loved and special – providing a summer of positive memories that can last a lifetime. These children enjoy just being kids with their summer days filled with fun activities that include swimming, hiking, sports and recreation, games, arts and crafts, campfires and special visitors.
