Discover Your Northwest promotes the discovery of Northwest public lands, enriches the experience of visitors, and encourages stewardship of these special places today and for generations to come.
We envision more residents and visitors as active stewards who understand and care for the unique natural and cultural heritage of Northwest public lands.
DYNW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cooperating association with public land agencies in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Montana. Founded in 1974, we began operating on-site educational bookstores at a few select Northwest parks and forests. We have since blossomed into a regional organization that manages 104 retail sites (visitor centers and ranger stations) in partnership with 34 public land entities. Our presence spans urban environments such as Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and Ballard Locks in Seattle to wilderness areas such as the Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center, San Juan Islands NHP, and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. We curate each retail site with high-quality books, educational products, maps, media, and other items that cultivate visitor appreciation and deepen their understanding of these diverse public lands. The retail sales build the foundation of aid contributed to collaborative projects that enhance visitor experiences including:
Conservation education
Exhibits
Free publications
Speakers and performances
Habitat clean-up and restoration
Volunteer coordination
We are headquartered in Seattle, WA and proud to be partners with the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, US Army Corps of Engineers, City of Seattle Parks and Recreation, and Washington State Parks.
