Mission: Discover Your Northwest promotes the discovery of Northwest public lands, enriches the experience of visitors, and encourages stewardship of these special places today and for generations to come.
Vision: We envision more residents and visitors as active stewards who understand and care for the unique natural and cultural heritage of Northwest public lands.
About: DYNW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner of 34 public lands in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Montana. Founded in 1974, we began operating on-site educational bookstores at a few select Northwest parks and forests. We have since grown to manage 104 retail sites which provide on-site information and educational products that cultivates visitor appreciation of these diverse public lands. Our presence spans urban environments such as Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and Ballard Locks in Seattle to wilderness areas such as the Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center, San Juan Islands NHP, and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Our retail sales are the foundation for aid contributed to projects that enhance visitor experiences including conservation education programs, exhibits, cultural demonstrations, habitat clean-up and restoration, and volunteer coordination.
Giving Tuesday
In October, Congress put off passing a comprehensive budget for the next fiscal year which puts the Forest Service and its partners in limbo operationally. The outlook is grim considering the proposed Forest Service budget has already been cut by half a billion dollars and supplemental funding from the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which significantly helped in recent years, is set to expire with no signs of renewal. At this point, the Forest Service nationwide has put a moratorium on hiring seasonal workers in FY2025. This will tremendously hurt the Forest Service's ability to perform needed trail maintenance, conduct education programs, provide visitor and information services, carry out pit toilet services, etc. As the nonprofit partner of 15 National Forests in the Pacific Northwest region, we are working collaboratively to develop creative solutions that lessens the negative impact on these lands and sustains services for recreators and visitors. Your donation this Giving Tuesday will provide aid to these National Forests:
Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
Deschutes-Ochoco National Forest
Gifford Pinchot National Forest
Lassen National Forest
Lolo National Forest
Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest
Mt. Hood National Forest
