NWRECC Stepping Stones was born from a desire to provide to others the same opportunities and circumstances that led a young woman out of the depths of poverty and abuse, to a life of safety
and independence. To learn more about Laurie’s story click here.
For our elderly and disabled populations, our service coordinator program is designed to assist our residents in identifying tools and critical support services necessary to maintain their independence. We believe when given the right tools, anyone can achieve happiness and success in life.
Our staff and resource centers provide access to technology, training, and one-on-one assistance to meet the individual needs of our residents. Together they work to set goals and make positive steps toward the future. Our after school programs not only helps children with their homework, they also help build a solid foundation by teaching the principles of leadership and decision making skills
Today, we ask for your support to help us continue our mission. Together, we can continue to fight poverty and provide a stepping stone towards a brighter future.

Bernadette
Bernadette is originally from Africa, and she came to the United States as a refugee. She had a background in nursing and spent time helping those around her in the refugee camps. She started using the center to prepare for her nursing certification here in the U.S. Although she had great speaking and writing skills she still had a hard time with some of the specialized vocabulary for nursing.
Through the center she found a place that was able to provide a safe environment for her children to learn, while she was able to have access to the internet and the assistance in the translation of her test questions. Working together we overcame her obstacles with vocabulary and she managed to pass all of her tests with high scores. Also during this time we worked together to create a professional resume and fill out real life applications.
Today Bernadette and her family now own their own home and have experienced success. The children are able to attend a private school and our last communication, she was very happy with her
new life.
Chamime
Charmime and her family spent much of their lives in refugee camps in war torn Africa. Upon coming to the United States they went through the process of learning basic English, her mother found a job and they went to public schools. When Charmime started using the center we discovered she was struggling with reading in school. Having difficulty even pronouncing the sounds of letters meant that she was also having difficulty learning what she was being taught.
