The Note in The Pocket Mission
We provide clothing to impoverished and homeless school children in Wake County. Note In The Pocket believes that it is unacceptable that children are limited in their educational and social development because they do not have appropriate clothes for school.
The reason we are here - CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING.
Angie was only 7 years old but she knew the other girls didn't talk to her because her clothes were shabby. Those girls had really cute bright jackets and jeans with colorful stitching and shoes that always looked brand new.
They made fun of Angie's sweatpants and dirty shoes. Angie felt worthless and beneath the other kids. She was sad and lonely and this affected her concentration and hurt her grades.
Jonah was labeled a difficult middle school student with a huge chip on his shoulder. He was angry all the time, disruptive in class and even refused to participate in gym class. What child doesn't like gym?
Children whose shoes are two sizes too small don't like gym. When every step is painful, it was less humiliating for Jonah to pretend to be angry than in agony.
Jennifer was a Junior in high school. She had never had a boyfriend but all the boys thought she was "wild" because of the way she dressed. Little did they understand, the reason Jennifer wore blouses and jeans that were so tight that they hurt was because it was all she had.
Her mother hadn't been able to afford to get her but a few thrift shop clothes since 8th grade, So she had to suffer the humiliation of these sexy appearing clothes or stay home.
Jennifer knew by doing well in school, one day she could afford new clothes herself. Still, the jears and off-color comments made her cry.
Note in the Pocket provides a whole mini-wardrobe, in each child's unique sizes, that includes new socks and underwear, shoes, outerwear appropriate to the season and enough tops and bottoms to mix and match for a season's worth of school clothes.
There are over 53,000 Angie, Jonah and Jennifer's in Wake County alone.
There is a child out there waiting for your help. YOU can be the HERO of their story.
