If you're insured you probably don't think about medications much.  But mothers and fathers whose children are uninsured do.  Their choice?  Food for the table, heat in the home or a $175 inhaler for their daughter's asthma.  And so does the uninsured pregnant woman who can't afford the $1,000 per week blood thinner to keep her pregnancy safe from dangerous clots.

NOVA ScriptsCentral does more than think about medications for the uninsured in Northern Virginia - we help people with these very problems every day.  In the past four years, NOVA Scripts has provided more than $10 million dollars of medications to the uninsured.   In fact our mission is to provide quality pharmaceutical care and year-round access to medications for chronic disease for children and adults.  Your neighbor who is uninsured or the child in your son's classroom who is uninsured deserve to have as long and healthy a life as those who have health insurance.  That's NOVA Scripts' goal.

Invest in NOVA ScriptsCentral.  NSC is a nonprofit pharmacy in Falls Church providing medication and pharmaceutical services to uninsured, low-income children and adults in Northern Virginia with chronic conditions.   It's the only one of its kind in Virginia and the region, and is completely funded by grants and by caring people like you.

You know the statistics.  More than 50 million US residents are uninsured.  Nearly half of all of us have at least one chronic disease; one-quarter have two or more. Chronic conditions are the main cause of illness, disability, and death in the US.   But you can't treat chronic disease without the life-sustaining medications that those of us with insurance take for granted.

Do you remember the story of the little boy who died in our region because his mother could not find care for his tooth infection?  Or the man who recently died as well from a tooth abscess for lack of the antibiotics?

You heard of these cases because their deaths were so shocking.  But many children are hospitalized for lack of inhalers, and adults lose their lives prematurely to diabetes or hypertension.  But it happens so often that it doesn’t make the headlines; it’s the hidden cost for the uninsured. And the hidden cost for our whole community.

NSC is changing the story for the working poor in Northern Virginia.  Volunteer physicians provide the health care at free and community clinic sites and mobile health vans, we provide the medication support and the pharmacist counseling.  And in our four years of operation we have provided more than $10 million dollars of medications to Northern Virginia families.

NOVA Scripts serves 19 clinic partners; one pharmacy for the benefit of all, rather than each clinic developing their own.  Operating our mail-order pharmacy in donated space lowers our overhead. We are able to dispense millions of dollars of medications because of our wonderful staff and volunteer pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, reducing the cost of filling each prescription.

NSC provides more than 350 medications for over 40 chronic conditions, making sure they are consistently in stock and available to patients when they need them. And NCS provides a reliable source for medication. Imagine the mother in our story receiving three months of inhalers for their child for only $5.  Patients qualify once a year and can receive as many prescriptions as they need to manage their chronic conditions.

NOVA Scripts relies on donations and grants to purchase our generic medications.  Our brand name medications are donated to us from pharmaceutical companies - last year their donations totaled over $1.5 million dollars in product.

NSC offers real value to patients, the health system, and the our community at large: for every dollar NSC spends on medication, $32 worth of medications goes into the community.

Changing the story for the uninsured working poor needs you to help us write a happier endingWhen you contribute to NOVA ScriptsCentral, you help us provide life-saving medicine to people in need. Our operation is efficient and streamlined with little overhead, so your donation translates directly into prescriptions for patients. Help us improve the health of Northern Virginia - one prescription at a time!
