A NEW CONTEMPORARY VOICE
NOW-ID was founded by Choreographer Charlotte Boye-Christensen, and Architect Nathan Webster in 2013 together with a dynamic Board of passionate collaborators from the fields of design, music, event planning and art - to create a ruthlessly contemporary voice in the performing/arts and design world. Based in Salt Lake City, the company creates forward thinking, innovative and encompassing work for both artists and audience, work that grows from specific sites and in collaboration with local, national and international partners from a range of creative fields.
NOW-ID was formed in 2013, and obtained non-profit status in 2014.
DYNAMIC IN SCOPE
Since forming, NOW-ID has produced 8 major evening length performances reaching a combined audience number of 3678 people: “The Wedding” at the Masonic Temple in Salt Lake City in July, 2013, “Feast” at the Great Saltair in May 2014, “Glimpse” at UMOCA in September 2014, “Feast/ Kansas” at the Kansas Dance Festival in Wichita November 2014, “NOW HERE” at the Kimball Art Center in July 2015, “NOWHERE” at Libby Gardner Concert Hall in July 2015, "Exodus" at the Marriott Center for Dance in Salt Lake City in July 2016 and then at the Copenhagen Opera Festival and at Funen Opera House in Denmark in August 2016 and "It's Not Cracker" At UMOCA in December 2016.. Additionally the company has hosted symposiums on design, art and dance reaching 422 people. Through educational residencies the company has reached: In Utah - 255 students of dance. Nationally - 587 students of dance and Internationally - 245 students. The company has developed a summer intensive "Space As Collaborator, the first summer workshop of its kind in the US - targeted towards Designers, Architects, Choreographers and Dancers set in a site-specific context. The first one attracted 24 students from all over the country and Canada, the second even more; we additionally awarded 4 scholarships to students from Weber State, UVU, The University of Utah and SUU. We presented 11 pieces in 5 days to a combined audience of over a 150 people. The presentations were free of charge. We have hosted two ground breaking fundraisers “House of Apocalypse” in Salt Lake City for 300+ people.
In 2017 we are producing our show "Desert Shore" in July, hosting our third Space As Collaborator workshop in August, producing our third Gala in September, staging a longer rendition of "It's Not Cracker" in December. And additionally doing residencies locally, nationally and internationally.
ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY IN UTAH AND ABROAD
NOW-ID is interested in engaging a broad community in reflection first on the present creative state of our specific place in the West and to encourage further innovative and interdisciplinary artistic work and dialogue here and hasten creative impact beyond this region. Salt lake City is an ideal environment for creating new, creative and exploratory work and so far, NOW-ID has created partnerships with the following organizations: UMOCA, SLAC, CUAC, Kimball Art Center, The BBoy Federation, The Leonardo, Lunatic Fringe, Waterford, Flying Bobcat Theatrical Laboratory, Tanner Dance, The Figura Ensemble in Copenhagen and more.
