Oakland Catholic High School

A nonprofit organization

Oakland Catholic High School is a Christ-centered, college preparatory school for young women of diverse backgrounds. The OC community is committed to an environment that promotes spiritual formation, excellence in education, a wide range of activities and athletics, and service to others and is dedicated to teaching young women to lead lives of faith, courage and commitment as they lay the foundation for their future as responsible and respected global leaders.

Within Oakland Catholic reside many students of significantly high caliber. These students have existed at OCHS since its conception, but they have not always been publicly recognized for their outstanding achievements and unfaltering quest for knowledge. The Joan of Arc Society of Scholars was formed after reviewing the history of these students and their academic careers at OCHS. Although the National Honor Society, various accolades, and many prestigious universities recognized the talent of these students, there was no formal program at our school that officially acknowledged them as a group of students who entered OCHS from the start with a purposeful intent to hone their intellects. They consistently performed exceptionally well in an academic environment they had chosen to make even more demanding than required. The Joan of Arc Society of Scholars was conceived to respond to the needs of these students and to assist them in their academic journey.

Testimonials

"The OC legacy means so much to me because I made friendships there that will last the rest of my life. I have traveled to many countries and different parts of the world, but Oakland Catholic will always be home to me. It was Oakland Catholic where I learned to be part of a team, acquire skills to balance my busy life, and developed a strong work ethic that has taken me very far, and it was the people I met at OC that helped me do all of this." ~Leah Smith '13, US Olympian Swimmer-Gold & Bronze Medalist, Rio 2016

"IT'S GREAT TO BE A PART OF SUCH A LONG TRADITION OF EDUCATING WOMEN. I THINK ABOUT GIRLS IN OTHER COUNTRIES WHO WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR A DAY IN A PLACE AS ENRICHING. " CAITLIN BECK, MPH, Class of 1996, Executive Director of Women's & Children's Services, UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Health System

"UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE YOUR DREAMS AND EDUCATION AT A STELLAR INSTITUTION. THE TOOLS NEEDED TO SUCCEED ARE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS BUT YOU HAVE TO DECIDE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM. BE FEARLESS, PREPARED, STUDIOUS, AND KIND." ~ SABRINA SAUNDERS, Class of 1999, Executive Director, Strong Women, Strong Girls
