The ORI has been recognized for our expertise and advocacy in snag and habitat conservation. For example, we are working with Flathead National Forest and Flathead Indian Reservation, to provide data on snags for their forest management decisions. We have been invited to speak at significant events such as the Montana Tree Farmers Association, Montana Society of American Foresters, and Mission Valley Conservation Alliance quarterly meetings. We address the Montana Forest Landowner Conferences. These opportunities allow us to bring the importance of snag preservation to key influencers and decision-makers, shaping best practices and conservation efforts for the long-term benefit of owl habitats.
"Our 8th graders have been studying the Tundra biome, and have been very interested in the role of field scientists. We were lucky to invite Denver Holt, the "Owl Scientist" [from the ORI] to present his work to my students in a language they understood, interspersed with Inupiaq names for every animal. We want to thank him for his participation and supporting the exemplification of science in our community." - Assunta Casarotti, Eben Hopson Sr. Memorial Middle School, Utqiagvik, Alaska
"Ninepipes Lodge has worked with Denver Holt and the Owl Research Institute for a number of years. They have contributed to the economy of the area by bringing in people interested in viewing and protecting the birds of our area. These are people that have concern and respect for the environment and all aspects of nature." - Laurel Cheff, Charlo, MT
"Dear Dr. Holt [ORI], Thank you for your thoughtful review of the research proposal from Leonard Yannielli. The insight provided by peer reviewers is invaluable to us and greatly appreciated." - Carolyn Schneyer, Earthwatch Institute
