Why does Oak City Academy Exist?

Most urban children in American are subject to an educational system that was built for the 1920’s, doesn’t prepare them for a technologically advanced global economy, and generally leaves the urban community behind.

 

We believe that children were born to innovate and to engage God in everything they learn. We also believe that neither income nor social status should dictate a child's right to flourish and succeed.

 

Therefore we have created a school that brings together urban and suburban children into one educational community through a 90% scholarship program. We teach them how to learn (rather than what to learn) and how to engage God in every aspect of their curriculum. We also cultivate a desire in the students to value one another, invest in each other's lives, and build a community where every child succeeds.

 

We have expanded to include grades Pre-K through 2nd grade and desire to go through high school. Currently each of our children (low income and middle income) is above grade level and has seen how God connects to math, science, and language. There have also been some sweet stories of how the children value one another and invest in each other’s lives.

 

We want to partner with individuals and business in the city that have a similar passion for education and the urban community. We hope you will partner with us as we journey to transform the urban community through a Christ centered education.
