Ocia Research and Education Inc

OCIA R&E stands for the Organic Crop Improvement Association Research and Education.  We were incorporated in 2003 by members of OCIA, an organic certification company, to address the needs of organic research and education. 

Our mission is to support organic research; facilitate connections between farmers, researchers, consumers and decision-makers; and educate producers and communities regarding organic farming and foods.

We award micro grants for organic research, organic education and other projects supporting organic agriculture that will benefit multiple producers, processors and consumers.  Typical grants are in the range of $300 to $1,500 on a first come-first serve basis.  An annual scholarship is also awarded to a graduate student, which supports the organic research they are conducting.  To date, over $45,000 has been awarded in grants and scholarships.

OCIA R&E also recognizes an Outstanding Farmer of the Year, who must be an OCIA certified member for at least five years, for their outstanding achievements and organic farming practices. 

OCIA R&E has created a mentorship program to help the new or current farmer learn more about organic farming practices.  This complimentary initiative will pair up any individual who is interested in learning greater knowledge, and even hands-on experience, with an OCIA certified organic farmer in their area.
