Ojai Unified School District Family Fund

Launched in the fall of 2019 and restructured as a 501 ( c )(3) nonprofit in 2021, Family Fund is

the central point to provide support for the ongoing wellness needs of our students, such as

bikes and trolley tokens/bus passes; clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies; after-school

enrichment programs such as performing arts, athletics team gear, and Mountain Biking Club;

field trip funds; and short-term critical need resources.

Since 2021, Family Fund has distributed over $19,000 in gas, Visa, grocery and store gift cards to

families in need to help them navigate short-term financial crises, and enable parents to

continue traveling back and forth to work, put food on the table, and celebrate special occasions

together.

Children experiencing poverty often exhibit poor classroom engagement and poor social skills,

and that achievement gap for low-income elementary students tends to persist, and may

even worsen, over time. Without the additional resources provided by Family Fund to mitigate

these socio-economic disparities, we are concerned our students will be less able to perform

well in school, focus on their education and enrichment, or have the same post-secondary

opportunities afforded to their more affluent peers.
