We bring diverse thinkers together. Founded in 1944, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) helps everyone discover their love for science. Without scientific thinkers, decisions can be uninformed, and fears — not facts — motivate actions. We have a vision that OMSI, collaborating with partners, will ignite an education transformation at the intersection of science, technology and design that spreads opportunities across the Northwest.

We empower a scientifically-literate society. Through hundreds of exciting hands-on exhibits, engaging lab activities, camps, classes, and outreach programs that stretch across the region, OMSI hones scientific thinking and helps explore the connections between the big wide world and our individual impact. We believe that solutions to the complex challenges of the 21st century will be developed based on data and evidence, through iteration, collaboration, and the open exchange of ideas.

We build a stronger Oregon. OMSI is an important cultural anchor, not just for Portland, but for the state and region. The idea for OMSI began more than 100 years ago, when a group of local science enthusiasts created a collection of rocks and minerals for public display. Today, we offer 362 days of programming a year, camps in Fossil and Newport that leverage resources across Oregon and five Northwest states, adult programming 6 nights a month, and professional development programs for educators who reach the youngest pre-school scientists to advanced PhD researchers. We are committed to equipping everyone, no matter their background, lifestyle, or income level, with the skills and confidence to keep asking questions and to question those answers.
