OWEd is unique among education non-profits in that it enhances the classroom experience for both students and teachers.

Our core program is the One World Curriculum, twelve innovative units built around winning essays from an annual student Culture & Global Issues Reflection Program. The student authors serve for the year as OWEd Student Ambassadors and participate in a rigorous editing process that helps them prepare their writing for publication. The writing of each of these students then becomes the foundation of that year’s One World Curriculum, with a new One World Unit published each month over the course of the year.

The One World Curriculum is developed with a format that is similar to federal and local standardized tests, thereby providing students with practice test experience.  Once developed, these new One World Units will be made available, free-of-charge, to local educators through our website. OWEd is recognized as an official professional development partner and curriculum provider within DCPS.

Middle and high school students are becoming published writers through OWEd.  Melissa, a 10th grade student, is one of the 1,000 local students to submit their writing to OWEd. Melissa shared that seeing her writing published changed her awareness of her academic ability. When her principal recognized her accomplishment over the loud speaker, it was one of her proudest moments. OWEd showcases students as teaching tools across the city. Parents and teachers are seeing their students thrive and succeed in a program that celebrates youth perspectives and ideas through writing.
