Oneida Crisis Center

The Oneida Crisis Center is a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocacy Center. We offer advocacy to those that have suffered from traumatic experiences. We assist in filing protection orders and can lend a hand in filling out housing assistance and health and welfare assistance. The Oneida Crisis Center is able to offer shelter to individuals fleeing a violent situation. Our shelter is the only wheelchair accessible domestic violence shelter in South Eastern Idaho.

 We are able to offer limited Supportive Housing for individuals. This is to bridge the gap between time in the shelter and the approximate 36 month wait for section 8 housing.

Also, the Oneida Crisis Center provides Children and Adult Group Therapy for victims of abuse during the week to promote the healing process due to the trauma associated with domestic, family and/or sexual abuse that promotes self-esteem building and healthy family relationships. We offer Teen Dating Violence Awareness lessons. These lessons are to help Teens recognize the warning signs and to understand what healthy relationships look and feel like.

This past fall we had the opportunity to start a Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The Child Advocacy Center is a safe place for children who have experienced sexual abuse to be interviewed in a compassionate, non-threatening way. Prior to the initialization of the CAC when a child disclosed abuse to someone, a possible sequence might be that the child confides the abuse to another student, it is then relayed to a teacher, then to the principal, health care professional, child protection worker and then law enforcement. This further abuses the already traumatized child, causing her/him to relive the heinous act each time the child is interviewed by the above parties. The Purpose of the Child Advocacy Center is to reduce the trauma a child feels due to reliving the abuse by necessitating only one interview.
