Opera North Inc

Opera North Inc. is currently raising funds for the Visual Soundscapes project; a series of short films depicting through music, film and poetry the innovative changes happening in the behavioral health field. The Visual Soundscapes project is designed to establish a new model for mental health service delivery, education, awareness, and stigma reduction. Autumn Journey inaugurates the series, combining this approach with the aesthetics of music and poetry, conveyed through film. 

Autumn Journey has a film score and narration that boast nationally and internationally-acclaimed Philadelphia jazz and classical music artists. Autumn Journey also features two prominent Peer Counseling mentors from the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disabilities Services. DC-based Citygate Films has captured stunning visuals of Philadelphia that play a primary role in representing the city and the story. Autumn Journey is based on the concept and implementation of recovery care treatment provided by award-winning commissioner Dr. Arthur C. Evans Jr. and the staff at DBHIDS. 

Opera North Inc. is Pennsylvania’s oldest African-American opera company. ONI’s mission statement is: To impact the quality of life and developmental experiences of underserved communities having little or no exposure to the arts; to produce stimulating and high-quality artistic experiences for Opera North, Inc. audiences; to create performance opportunities for talented yet underexposed African-American artists and to highlight the many contributions of African-Americans to the operatic genre.
