2012 has been an exciting year for OREF. Not only has the Foundation continued its support of the best and brightest in orthopedics, but OREF has also dreamed big, and is now charting an ambitious course to fund impactful, transformative research that involves all the subspecialties.

Some recent highlights:

* Dr. Atul Kamath receives CCJR award for research on reducing unplanned ICU admissions following total hip arthroplasty

* OREF supports young surgeon’s research on how dioxin from cigarette smoking may inhibit bone healing 

* OREF funds research to improve helmets for young hockey and football players

* Dr. Thomas Brown receives prestigious OREF Clinical Research Award for his research on dislocation after total hip arthroplasty

OREF was founded more than 55 years ago by orthopedic surgeons who wanted to support emerging talent in their field, and thus advance orthopedics and improve patient care.
