Parkinson's Support Group of Green Valle

The Parkinson's Support Group of Green Valley strives to raise community awareness; to offer information and to encourage and stimulate friendships among people with Parkinson's and their families. We encourage members to "Give Parkinson's the SAC "by staying Mentally Stimulated, Physically Active and Socially Connected.

The Parkinson's Activity Center (PAC) opened in May of 2023. The center is located at 555 N. La Canada, suite 127, in Green Valley, AZ. Activities are held 5 - 6 days a week either at the PAC or in various location in the community. In 2023 members participated over 22,000 times in various programs or activities. Membership is over 350 which includes men with PD, women with PD and the care partners.

We encourage members to "Give Parkinson's the SAC "by staying Mentally Stimulated, Physically Active and Socially Connected.
Mental Stimulation is offered with a monthly newsletter, educational lectures, a lending library and alerts about upcoming webinars.
Physical Activity is provided with chair exercise classes three times a week , cardio class twice a week, a weekly chair yoga class, Nordic pole walking and golf at a local course.
Social Connections are maintained with group sharing meetings in person or via zoom, a monthly breakfast & lunch , weekly coffee get-together. Homemade greeting cards for member birthdays and monthly caring calls to shut-in members. In 2023over 30,000 contacts were made to members of the organization.
Traditional support group sessions are held monthly. Women with PD, men with PD and family members meet separately to accommodate the special needs of each group. New opportunities for members in 2022 are establishing a Resource Room, initiating P.L.A.Y (Participation and Laughter on the Arts for You), coordination of a Rock Steady Boxing program and weekly coffee get-togethers. There is some type of activity an individual with Parkinson's, or their care partner could participate in five days a week.
