Pacifica Library Foundation

A 2011 Library Needs Assessment found that Pacificans love and heavily use the library, but our current buildings are not equipped to provide library spaces for children and teens, sufficient access to computers and technology, or comfortable, quiet areas for reading and studying.

Our situation is exacerbated by being the only city in San Mateo County to operate two library branches on one budget. The result: fewer operating hours, fewer programs and fewer materials.

We can do better.

We Pacificans have a history of banding together to improve our community. White Field and Tonini Field, Friendship Playground at Frontierland Park, the Pacifica Skatepark, and our beautiful, safe, and structurally sound elementary schools are a few examples of how we have invested in our collective future.

The solution to our current inefficient library system is one new library that meets our needs.  In partnership with the San Mateo County Library system, Pacifica’s City Council and the Pacifica Friends of the Library, we are working to replace two outdated and inadequate buildings with one modern facility. This fiscally responsible solution means that Pacifica will no longer have to divide money, books and staff between two substandard buildings.
