Who We Are

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), is a non-profit organization that connects people to nature across north-central New Mexico through our partnerships, exhibits, and programs. Our Mission: Enriching people’s lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies.

What We Do

PEEC was begun in 2000 by a small group of dedicated citizens devoted to bringing a nature center and environmental education to Los Alamos. Today it has grown to a thriving, award-winning organization operating out of the Los Alamos Nature Center. PEEC provides hikes and outings for the public, hands-on, interactive classroom lessons and field trips for grades K-12, public lectures and classes, a planetarium with weekly astronomy shows, and much more.

Equipped with a full-dome planetarium, wildlife observation room, indoor and outdoor play areas, and interactive indoor and outdoor exhibits, the Los Alamos Nature Center is a great place to orient to the region and enjoy the breathtaking views of canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. We serve 30,000 adults and children per year with the nature center; public programs such as talks, hikes, outings, and classes; school lessons and field trips; and our state-of-the-art planetarium.
