 Black Friday,
Cyber Monday...

After two days of shopping, a day to give back. December 3rd is #GivingTuesday.

Services and events provided by our network of Palisades village volunteers help older neighbors stay comfortably, safely and actively in the homes they love as long as possible.

To learn more, get a copy of our latest annual Progress Report by emailing info@palisadesvillage.org or calling 202-244-3310.

You'll learn about people like:

Margaret Merriman,92, iiving with myelin leukemia and macular degeneration. Volunteers who give her rides or join her in grocery shopping and carry the heavy bags into her kitchen help her stay in the home she and her late husband Howard Maxwell moved into in 1958.

Nadine Dutcher, otherwise healthy, who fell and broke her pubic bone while her housemate, Alexander Zanolli, was in the hospital. Advice and volunteers from Palisades Village helped them both recover in their own home.

Bob and Sue Bourdaud'hui, who throw great parties for members and volunteers. Bob also unjams printers, cajoles ailing laptops back into service, and conducts oral history interviews of members from the Greatest Generation.

Michael Allen, 53, says he helps his older neighbors through Palisades Village because we all benefit from living in an inter-generational community of residents with diverse perspectives.

More than 800 blind and sight-impaired DC residents -- 88 percent of them seniors -- who lost their radio-based local news service, got it back after Palisades Village took a leading role in a citywide drive to get the city to resume paying its share of the cost.

Our volunteers know that staying at home can be especially challenging for those who live alone or can't drive any more. Through Palisades Village, they help older neighbors more than 100 times a month -- offering rides to medical appointments, help with shopping, pharmacy pickups, and household chores, as well as a chance to stay engaged socially with friends and neighbors.

Some call it aging in place. We think of it just as neighbors helping neighbors.

We depend mightily on the generosity of our donors, because our modest membership fees (free to lower-income residents) cover only part of our costs.

A  gift of $10 or more would be a great way to show your support. So would joining or volunteering. Thanks for taking the time to read our pitch!
