A committed community through recreation is a stronger and healthier community.

The Palo Alto Recreation Foundation was formed to keep City events alive when cutbacks began in the Recreation Department more than 20 years ago.  The Foundation builds community through community events and recreation programs.  We help present the May Fete Parade and Fair with 5,000 marching children, enable 20,000 + people enjoy World Music Day, entertain 8,000 people at the July 4th Chili Cook-off, provide 150 scholarships to Middle School athletes, fund teen leadership training for 100 emerging leaders, and support 1,000 summer day-campers, among other activities.

Additionally, the Foundation acts as the fiscal agent for groups who hold ad hoc civic events, such as the Firefighter’s pancake breakfast for Project Safety Net, the championship Paly Football team parade, the Tour de California Prologue race, and the recent City Camp Hackathon.

As government funds and personnel continue to be reduced, the role of the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation has grown more important in keeping City traditions and programs going.  With your support, not only can we continue our current programs, but we can add more opportunities for the community to gather in celebrations which strengthen community ties and improve the quality of life in Palo Alto.
